Carre’s disease
Carre’s disease is a very infectious disease and is caused by a virus. The symptoms include a runny nose and coughing which can be very underestimated. This is followed by fever, lack of appetite, vomiting and/or diarrhoea, an inflamed throat, discharge from the nose and eyes, spasms and cramp. A young dog may suddenly become very ill. The virus causes inflammation in the intestines and also meningitis and many dogs will not survive. If they do survive it can cause permanent damage or a tick and some dogs can be left with behavioural problems that they did not have before the infection. The disease is spread by saliva, urine and faeces.
